Foot Surgery
Alberta Family Podiatry provides foot surgery in Calgary for a variety of foot conditions. Depending on the procedure and the individual patient, surgery may be performed through the Alberta healthcare system in a hospital setting or in our on-site private surgical suite in Calgary.
Surgery is not always the first treatment option. We assess each patient individually and consider conservative treatment when appropriate. When surgery is recommended, we discuss the procedure, surgical setting, expected recovery and available treatment options with you.
Conditions That May Require Foot Surgery

- Hammertoes and other toe deformities
- Painful corns caused by underlying bone or toe deformity

Hospital and On-Site Surgical Options
Alberta Family Podiatry provides two options for patients who require foot surgery. Depending on the type of procedure and the individual patient, surgery may be performed in a hospital through Alberta’s publicly funded healthcare system or in our on-site private surgical suite.
Hospital surgery is available for appropriate procedures and is covered through Alberta Health Care. Our private surgical suite provides another option for selected procedures that can safely and appropriately be performed in our clinic under local anesthesia.
Our On-Site Private Surgical Suite
Alberta Family Podiatry has a dedicated private surgical suite within our Calgary clinic. The facility allows selected foot procedures to be performed in a controlled surgical environment under local anesthesia without requiring a hospital operating room.
Procedures performed in our surgical suite may include removal of certain soft tissue masses, correction of hammertoes and other toe deformities, and selected minor to moderate bunion procedures. Whether a procedure is appropriate for the on-site surgical suite is determined after examination and depends on the type of surgery, the patient’s health, and other individual factors.
Patients who are better suited to hospital-based surgery can continue to access that option through our practice.
Hospital-Based Foot Surgery
Alberta Family Podiatry also provides foot surgery in a hospital setting for patients and procedures that are more appropriately treated in a hospital operating room. These surgeries are provided through Alberta’s publicly funded healthcare system and are covered by Alberta Health Care for eligible patients.
Hospital-based surgery may be recommended for more complex procedures or when a patient’s medical needs make a hospital setting more appropriate. During your surgical consultation, we will discuss whether hospital-based surgery or our on-site surgical suite is the appropriate option for your condition.
What to Expect From a Surgical Consultation
Patients considering foot surgery in Calgary can begin with a consultation at Alberta Family Podiatry to assess their foot condition, symptoms, medical history and previous treatments. X-rays or other imaging may be reviewed or recommended when necessary to better understand the underlying problem.
We will discuss both surgical and non-surgical treatment options when appropriate. If surgery is recommended, we will explain the proposed procedure, potential risks and benefits, expected recovery, and whether the procedure is best performed in our on-site surgical suite or in a hospital setting.
The goal of the consultation is to make sure you understand your options and have the information needed to make an informed decision about your treatment.
